Sunday, February 1, 2015, 9:14 On the morning of Sunday, February 1 three brothers 9, 12, and 14 years of age were brutally detained during destruction of the walkway surrounding the Givat Gal hilltop neighborhood adjacent to Hevron.
Personnel from the Israeli Civil Administration together with the police destroyed the walkway surrounding Gival Gal. During the destruction clashes developed. The police detained three brothers 9, 12, and 14 years of age whose family lives in the neighborhood.
According to the family and eye witnesses to the detention the three brothers were badly beaten. One of the 14 year-old’s arms was broken prior to the incident and the MADA paramedic who examined him after he was beaten determined that the police might have broken his other arm. Despite the paramedic’s concern the policemen refused to allow the boy to receive medical care and he was taken to the Department of Nationalist Crime in the Central Unit of the Yehuda and Shomron Police for interrogation.
According to reports of the detention the 9 year-old was beaten and his 12 year-old brother was choked by one of the policemen. The two brothers were taken to the Merchav Hevron Police Station in the Givat Avot neighborhood. Dozens of Jewish residents gathered outside of the police station and protested the detention of the children.
A Honenu attorney is currently working on attaining the quick release of the children, the younger of whom is not of age to be criminally responsible.
Honenu: “Each time we are astounded again by how the police cross all boundaries. Children aged 9 and 12 were brutally beaten and detained, which is against the law. An Arab child filmed harassing a border policewoman in Hevron was not treated like this. This is a complete abandonment of all values.”
