Police raids in Jerusalem and Shomron: “The police have lost their minds”

Wednesday, October 12, 2011, 10:07 Overnight, policemen and detectives raided a house in the Shomron and an apartment in which men administratively distanced from Yitzhar are living. In both instances the police did not have search warrants.
At approximately 3:00 A.M. this morning (Wednesday) detectives from the National Unit of Serious and International Crime Investigations raided an apartment in which several men administratively distanced from Yehuda and Shomron are living. The detectives concentrated the residents of the apartment into one of the rooms, prevented them from leaving it, took their cell phones, prevented them from photographing the raid and searched the apartment.
According to the administrative exiles, who reported the incident to Honenu’s legal headquarters, the detectives broke into the apartment without knocking on the door, refused to present a warrant of any sort and even refused to present a police ID.
One of the residents demanded that they leave the apartment and in response the detectives demanded that he present a lease as proof that he resided in the apartment. Being as the lease was not at hand at 3:00 A.M., the detectives claimed that they weren’t obligated to anything.
For their part, the detectives claimed that they had a detention warrant for a man who, although he is not a resident, was likely to be in the apartment. The detectives refused to specify who the man is or to present a warrant of any sort. After searching the apartment the detectives left and in doing so delayed one of the men who did not have his ID card on him. After a short while he was released.
Yitzhar spokesman: “The police have lost their minds”
Simultaneously police raided Yitzhar in the middle of the night and searched the house of one of the families. In this incident the police detectives had a detention warrant for a man who does not even live in Yitzhar. After a short search of the house, that was carried out with a search warrant, the police left the community.
Honenu reports in reponse to the police conduct that “The police must show progress in the Tuba Zangria mosque case at any price, and it appears that the price is callous trampling of citizens’ rights. We call on the Israeli Police to immediately regain their composure.”
Avraham Binyamin, Yitzhar’s spokesman, said in response, “The police have lost their minds. The conduct of the police during the past few weeks has time and time again trampled the law, and in accordance the complaints that citizens aren’t not respecting the law and its representatives, are proven to be hypocritical and empty.”
