Tuesday, April 5, 2022, 9:01 As terror attacks are on the rise throughout Israel, the family of Destau Bisset, Hy”d, is calling on the police and the GSS to continue the investigation of their father’s murder, specifically as a nationalistically motivated attack. Bisset was murdered in Ramle during the May 2021 Arab riots at the time of Operation Guardian of the Walls. Currently, the police and the GSS are treating the incident as a purely criminal act.
Moshe Shete, Bisset’s son-in-law, said that the attacks of the past two weeks leave no room for doubt: “In the course of the investigation of Destau’s murder, the police repeatedly said that the murder was carried out a week and a half after the Ramadan holiday, and therefore it is impossible to connect [the murder] to nationalistic intents of the murderers.
“The recent horrific attacks prove the complete opposite. Murderous terror does not distinguish between a regular day and a holiday. The four murder victims in Be’er Sheva, the two border policemen who were murdered in Hadera, and the murder victims in Bnei Brak, were murdered because they were Jews. Because they lived in and defended the State of Israel and the rights of Jews to live here. There was no connection to the Ramadan holiday, which had not yet begun.
“Terror is raising its head. The increasing escalation is as it was exactly a year ago. Destau was murdered in the middle of the street because he was a Jew. The Israel Police failed in their investigation of Destau’s murder. It was late by the time they got around to starting the investigation, which led them to excuse their powerlessness by claiming that the attack was not nationalistically motivated. As we approach the one-year anniversary of Destau’s death, he deserves justice. The State of Israel must find his murderers and prosecute them to the full extent of the law.”
In conclusion, the Bisset family demanded that their father’s murder be investigated more assertively: “The investigation of our father’s death must not be left unresolved. We demand that the Israel Police and the GSS return to the investigation and accelerate the process. The farther we get from the day of the attack, the more the chances of putting the murderers on trial decrease. Do not forget our father!”
Destau Bisset, Hy”d, age 74, was run over by two Arabs riding electric bicycles in Ramle in May 2021, during Operation Guardian of the Walls, and succumbed to his injuries approximately three weeks later. Eyewitnesses to the incident stated that the cyclists intentionally collided with Bisset, attempted to run over people waiting at a bus station and then fled the scene.
