Tuesday, June 7, 2022, 12:53 A Shomron resident was severely attacked during a flag march on Jerusalem Day (May 29). Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher, who is representing the victim, sent a letter to the Shomron Police demanding that the attacker be held in remand until he is indicted. The letter, summarized below, describes the attack:
While participating in a flag march from Avnei Hefetz to Einav, my client was brutally attacked by an Arab on Jerusalem Day. The march was coordinated with and authorized by all of the relevant authorities. The path of the march included a dirt road, Tzir HaBe’erot (Route of the Wells). Several Arabs were waiting in a car for the marchers to pass. One of the Arabs got out and cursed the marchers and the Jewish nation.
At that time, my client was standing next to the attacker’s car. Suddenly, the attacker ran, holding a large rock in his hand, and hit my client hard in the face with it. My client immediately lost consciousness from the force of the injury and fell. After a short time, my client woke up and saw that the soldiers who were guarding the march had overpowered and handcuffed the attacker. My client was evacuated to Meir Hospital for medical treatment. He currently suffers from a deep cut to his lips, dizziness, and headaches.
According to an examination of the crime victim notification system, the attacker is not being held in remand, which raises a concern that he has been released. He is a danger to the public who harassed the marchers and violently attacked my client, shamelessly and fearlessly.
If the attacker is in custody, I demand that he be held in remand until the end of legal proceedings against him. If he has been released, I demand that the investigation and the indictment for aggravated assault be expedited. The attacker must be put behind bars as soon as possible.
