Wednesday, September 21, 2022, 14:00 Honenu Attorney Eladi Weisel wrote a letter to the Police Investigation Unit (PIU) demanding that a border policeman filmed – see video clip below – pulling the payot and beard of an Oz Tzion resident be investigated. The incident occurred earlier this week in Oz Tzion when border policemen presented a closed military zone order to the residents. A video clip shows a confrontation between a border policeman, Berhanu Sitotau, and a resident. Sitotau punched the resident in the face, pulled his beard and payot, and then detained him with the assistance of other border policemen.
Weisel wrote in the letter to the PIU that “it is unnecessary to mention the degradation felt by a religious Jew who is being humiliated by having his beard and payot, which have religious significance to him, pulled,” and emphasized that it was “a shocking sight reminiscent of dark times in the history of the Jewish people.”
