Wednesday, December 13, 2023, 15:05 The GOC of the Central Command, Major General Yehuda Fuchs continues to obsessively persecute Yehuda and Shomron residents and activists. Yesterday (Tuesday) Maj.-Gen. Fuchs requested an urgent hearing on the precedential appeal he filed against the decision of the military court to reduce the duration of the restraining order served to Elisha Yered. Major General Fuchs signed the order, which prevents Yered from living at his home in the Binyamin region for half a year. The military court ruled that the order would expire at the end of this month. Maj.-Gen. Fuchs based his appeal on the danger that Yered poses to the security of the Yehuda and Shomron regions: “The Swords of Iron War [in Gaza] has increased the risk of violence breaking out in the Yehuda and Shomron regions. Therefore the danger posed by Yered is even greater at this sensitive time.”
Maj.-Gen. Fuchs’ request comes after Yered was detained on Sunday by detectives from the Yehuda and Shomron Police in the Jordan Valley who did not have a warrant of any kind. The detectives refused to explain why they were detaining Yered and informed him that he was being detained for 24 hours. The following day, police requested a four-day remand extension for Yered from the Jerusalem Magistrates Court and claimed that he had violated the conditions of the restraining order by staying in the Jordan Valley and not in Ateret, confined to the community as stated in the order. The court rejected the claim and released him.
Elisha Yered: “This is another disgraceful attempt by Major-General Fuchs to apply heavy-handed and dictatorial means against someone who dared to express criticism about his weak policy regarding the security of Yehuda and Shomron residents. It would be best if instead of trying to silence legitimate criticism against him in every possible way, Fuchs tried to lend an ear to the cry of the residents that crosses communities and sectors of differing outlooks and worked for a change of conception and the return of security to Yehuda and Shomron residents.”
Honenu Attorney Adi Keidar, who is representing Yered, added, “The police request to the court is completely baseless. Elisha was falsely detained as part of the unjustified persecution that will constitute the basis of a civil suit against the police and the army. Now, instead of clarifying matters with the military court, the prosecution has chosen legally faulty proceedings indicating that there is no justice and no judge and the end justifies the means.”
