Tuesday, February 25, 2020, 11:42 An 18-year-old Jew who had been attacked approximately a year ago by several Arab youths near the Old City of Jerusalem is currently suing the main assailant for 210,000 NIS in compensation.
The youth, a yeshiva student and Jerusalem resident, was assaulted in a horrific attack as he walked from the direction of Gan HaBonim to prayers at the Western Wall. When the youth reached the area of the Zion Gate, three Arab youths, one of them legally an adult, approached him, verified that he was Jewish and then viciously beat him in all parts of his body. Even after the assaulted youth fainted and fell to the ground, the attackers continued to beat him.
A short time after the attack the assailants were detained and indicted. Throughout the entire trial, Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher, the director of Honenu’s Terror Victims Department, assisted the assaulted youth and his family. Recently, the court handed down a verdict with regards to the main assailant, the adult, and he was sentenced to 11 months’ imprisonment. Subsequent to the verdict, Bleicher filed a civil suit on behalf of the victim against the attacker.
In the suit, Bleicher described how the incident unfolded, the characteristics of the attack as stated in the bill of indictment, the severe injury which the victim experienced, and the lengthy rehabilitation process he underwent to recover from the incident. In conclusion, Bleicher demanded a sum total of 210,00 NIS in compensation to be paid directly to the victim. The other two assailants, who were minors at the time of the attack, have also been convicted and currently their penalty is in the process of being set.
Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher: “The phenomenon of antisemitic attacks in the capital of Israel is a menace that must be fought with full force and in all ways. We at Honenu will continue our efforts to ensure that antisemitic attackers pay the price for their actions.”
