Sunday, October 11, 2026, 18:56 This morning, the Shabak (GSS) and the Yehuda and Shomron District Police detained two security personnel from the Shomron for questioning by the Shabak. One of the families involved is a bereaved family.
At an afternoon hearing, the Petah Tikva Magistrate’s Court extended their detention by four days, rejecting the Shabak and police request for a 12-day extension. Both detainees are currently being held under an order barring them from meeting with an attorney. The order is due to expire tonight. Most details of the detention and the detainees remain under a gag order.
Honenu Attorney Nati Rom, representing one of the detainees, said: “Once again, this is an escalation in the use of draconian measures against some of our finest young men. These are tools meant for terrorists, not for those who serve and love the country.”
Honenu Attorney Assaf Gonen, representing the second detainee, said: “We will fight with every tool at our disposal. The case is not as it is being portrayed.”
In a joint statement, the police and the Shabak said the two security personnel were detained overnight on suspicion of involvement in an incident of extreme violence in the Aqraba area about a month ago. The investigation is being conducted jointly by the inter-organizational command of the Yehuda and Shomron District Police, the Shabak, and the Military Police Investigations Unit.
Yossi Dagan, Head of the Shomron Regional Council, said: “I strongly protest this humiliating detention. I stand by the community security coordinators who risk their lives for the public’s safety. Although a gag order is in place, anyone who knows the security coordinator and the security personnel involved knows that these are serious, responsible people who have saved many lives. I am confident of their innocence. These are dedicated security personnel who work day and night to protect residents and have saved many lives. To the best of our knowledge, there has never been any criticism or remark against them during their service. We are confident that their innocence will be established. At the same time, we respect the investigative process and believe the matter will be clarified in the coming days.”
Regarding the manner of the detention, Dagan added: “According to the information we received, the two were detained in the living room of their homes, in front of their children. This is a traumatic experience for the children and their families and must be taken into account. While the suspicions need to be investigated, the rights of the detainees and the dignity of their families must be protected. I call for both of them to be allowed to meet with a lawyer immediately.”
The wife of one of the detained security personnel says that at 5:00 a.m. they were startled when a police force of at least 15 officers—some of them masked—arrived and refused to tell her husband the reason for his detention. The officers confiscated the detainee’s weapon, communication devices, and a Ranger ATV.
