Detentions in protests after Rabbi Ben-Gal, Hy”d, murder

Monday, February 5, 2018, 18:40 Two protesters, one of them a minor, have been detained at the Ariel Junction near the site of the terror attack in which Rabbi Itamar Ben-Gal, Hy”d, was murdered earlier the same day. They are suspected of blocking the road to Arab traffic. Honenu Attorney Nati Rom is providing the detainees with legal counsel at the police station.
Tuesday, February 6, 8:46 Update: Detainees from yesterday’s protests will be brought to a court deliberation. On Monday evening and into the night several protests took place throughout Yehuda and Shomron. In total eight protesters were detained, among them minors. Three of them will be brought to court deliberations today.
A short time after the terror attack an adult and a minor were detained at the Ariel Junction after protesting the opening of the road to Arab traffic a matter of minutes after the murder. Both detainees were released after interrogation and distanced from the Shomron for five days. Major-General Roni Numa, the GOC of the Central Command, arrived at the scene of attack and encountered a demonstration in protest of the powerlessness of the army to handle terror attacks.
A large protest was held close to 21:00 on Monday at the Shomron Brigade Base Junction. Protesters blocked the entrance to Shechem, five of whom were detained. One detainee will be brought today to a deliberation at the Petah Tikva Magistrate Court where Honenu Attorney Adi Kedar will represent him. The rest were released after interrogation at the police station and distanced from the Shomron for five days. One of the detainees was injured in the face during his detention when a policeman punched him.
Additionally, a protest took place at an intersection near Talmon in the Binyamin region. After the protest a youth was detained at the entrance to Talmon. The grounds for the detention are not clear. The detainee will be brought in the coming hours to a deliberation at the Jerusalem Magistrate Court.

Tuesday, February 6, 17:02 Update: Protests following the murder of Rabbi Ben-Gal continue throughout the Shomron. Three additional protesters have been detained.
At a protest held at the Shomron Brigade Base Junction at the entrance to Shechem an adult was detained and taken to the base for interrogation.
At a protest at the Yitzhar Junction a minor was detained. At a women’s protest at the Ariel Junction a minor was detained. Honenu Attorney Nati Rom is providing the detainees with legal counsel.
The Jerusalem and Petah Tikva Magistrate Courts have ordered the release of the two detainees from Monday’s protests.
The Jerusalem Magistrate Court rejected the police demand to impose five days of house arrest on the adult detained in the Shomron and ordered his release on his own recognition and third party bail. He was represented by Honenu Attorney Moshe Poleski.
The Petah Tikva Magistrate Court rejected the police demand to extend the remand of a minor detained at a protest in the Shomron and ordered his release to several days of house arrest at his home. Honenu Attorney Adi Kedar represented the minor.
