Four minors detained at dawn

Sunday, July 2, 2017, 12:00 Four minors, all of them Gush Etzion residents, were woken up at their homes and detained by policemen and police detectives, close to 4:00 A.M. on Sunday, July 2. They were interrogated at the Central Unit of the Yehuda and Shomron Police Station, about an incident which occurred many months ago. They were released on bail with no restrictive conditions after their interrogation.
Honenu provided the minors with legal counsel and leveled severe criticism at the police for their conduct: “The police should have formally summoned the minors to an interrogation in the customary manner. No such attempt was made before dragging them out of bed at dawn for interrogation about an incident which occurred many months ago. They could have been spared the traumatic experience had the Central Unit of the Yehuda and Shomron Police not forgotten that the law states that detention should be a last resort. It seems that the purpose of the detention was not for interrogation but rather to penalize and harass the minors. Youth are being penalized without consideration of their ages or of the scars with which they will be left. A minor is a child, and must be treated as such, even if he has payot. It is sad to see that the Israeli Police hurt minors so deeply. We intent to act upon this issue.”
