Wednesday, June 22, 2022, 21:21 Honenu Attorney Adi Keidar filed an urgent appeal with the Jerusalem District Court to cancel the order prohibiting the Ariel resident who defended a group of attacked children from meeting with an attorney. The Ariel resident was detained when he went to the police station to file a complaint about the attack and give testimony. Honenu is of the opinion that there were no grounds to issue the order and therefore the prohibition should be immediately canceled. In the appeal, Keidar demanded that he be allowed to represent the detainee according to his legal rights.
The appeal states that the appellant was summoned to give testimony today in the afternoon. However, shortly after he arrived, his family was informed that he was detained and not allowed to meet with an attorney until Thursday at noon. Keidar wrote that the appellant came to give testimony, and it is not clear what happened after that because the appellant is prohibited from meeting with an attorney. There were no grounds to issue the order because the detainee shielded with his body a group of almost 20 children who were in immediate life-threatening danger.
The incident was reported in real-time. However, the security forces did not arrive. “Under these circumstances, the honorable court is asked to schedule an urgent hearing on the appeal and to order the appellant brought to the hearing so that the court can examine from up close the condition of the appellant and his prison conditions,” wrote Keidar in the appeal to the court.
