Tuesday, June 28, 2022, 15:28 Honenu Attorney Adi Keidar has demanded that the investigation of the Ariel detainee be transferred from the GSS to the police. In a letter to the Central Unit of Yehuda and Shomron Police, Keidar emphasized that the detainee is willing to fully cooperate and would have been willing to cooperate even earlier if he had not been taken by the GSS when he came to give testimony at the Ariel Police Station.
In his letter, summarized below, Keidar described the condition of the detainee:
Once I was allowed to meet with my client, the detainee, I was exposed to his deteriorating emotional and physical condition, about which I have already filed a complaint, which was handled by Mivtan [the department of the Justice Ministry authorized to investigate complaints by GSS interrogatees]. At this stage, we demand that the GSS investigation be stopped and fully transferred to the police, including the transfer of the detainee from the GSS facility to a Prison Service/police facility. The detainee is willing to fully cooperate and stated that he would have been willing to do so earlier if he had not been taken [by the GSS] when he reported to the police station to give testimony.
We request that the detainee be brought to the police station today. We are certain that after you hear what he has to say, the situation, which is known to you by now anyway, will be clarified, the investigation will progress, and he will be released sooner.
It turned out that because, from the start, the investigation should not have been handled by the GSS, its efficacy was damaged. The investigation should be immediately transferred to the police. In our opinion, the detainee is able to cooperate, and from the moment that his testimony is verified this case will be where it should be.
