Sunday, December 25, 2022, 8:58 Following several attacks on Jewish families in the Abu-Tor neighborhood of Jerusalem last week, Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher wrote a letter, summarized below, on their behalf to the Jerusalem District Commander, Major-General Doron Turgeman.
The letter: My clients suffer from repeated violent harassment. Some of the incidents are life-threatening and reach the point of attempted murder. Over the past few days, there has been an extremely serious deterioration in the security of the neighborhood. A murderous terrorist squad in the area carried out a series of attacks. Terrorists launched fireworks directly at an apartment house and also hurled seven Molotov cocktails at apartments in the building. One of the Molotov cocktails penetrated a window of the Fayerman family’s home and burst into flames on the floor. Nine people were home at the time, including a three-day-old grandson and a very young granddaughter. The babies were rushed to the stairwell in order to save them from smoke inhalation, which could have significantly threatened their lives. The very quick-witted grandfather extinguished the blaze with a fire extinguisher. The other children and family members were terrified and experienced extreme anxiety.
Two nights later, a terrorist threw a Molotov cocktail at the building, which fell in the yard. The Molotov cocktail was extinguished by security guards and did not spread to the apartments in which my clients and their families were sleeping. In another attack, for a third time, a Molotov cocktail was thrown at the front of the building in the middle of the night. It ignited and caused damage to the Berlin family’s car and also to the property of the Fayerman family. Again, miraculously it was noticed and extinguished without injuring anyone.
There were three Molotov cocktail attacks – attempts to murder entire families – in less than one week. My clients filed complaints with the police over the three incidents. As far as my clients know, two suspects have been detained for the first attack. However, there are more members of the terrorist squad who are wandering free in the neighborhood and continuing to determinedly and uninhibitedly carry out attacks.
On behalf of my clients and their families, I demand urgent and thorough action using all means and the eradication of the terrorist squad before a tragedy occurs. I demand the involvement of the GSS and intelligence forces so that the rest of the terrorists will be brought into custody and put on trial. I demand tough treatment for the terrorists who have already been detained, and their remand until the end of proceedings against them. They must be indicted in a quick procedure for charges that are commensurate with the severity of their acts so that others “will see and be wary.”
