Tuesday, August 26, 2025, 16:18 An Arab resident of Jerusalem attacked a Jewish family’s house in the Ma’aleh HaZeitim neighborhood of the city with a Molotov cocktail over a year ago. The Arab was indicted and charged with using a weapon for terrorist purposes, arson as an act of terror, and a racially motivated malicious attempt to cause damage. He was sentenced to an 18-month active prison term and a ten month suspended sentence. The family was also awarded NIS 4,000 compensation.
Recently, Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher, who is representing the family as victims of terror, filed an NIS 560,000 suit against the Arab in civil proceedings on behalf of the family. The statement of claim described the attack:
The assailant, accompanied by several friends, approached the family’s house armed with a lit Molotov cocktail, which the assailant threw at the house. It landed in the yard, near the parents’ and the children’s bedrooms, and started a fire. The family was home at the time. When the father heard the noise, he went out to the yard and fortunately was able to extinguish the flames. The Molotov cocktail left burn marks on the walls of the house. As the assailant and his friends fled the scene, one of them lit an additional projectile and threw it at another Jewish family’s house.
The damages suffered by the family are described as follows: “The claimants experienced a severe antisemitic attack. The Molotov cocktail landed near the window of the parents’ bedroom. If it had hit the window and burst into flames, the incident could have ended in a significantly more tragic outcome. Since the attack, the family members have felt fear, and the parents do not leave the children home alone. The children are scared.”
Attorney Bleicher issued a statement: “This was a terror motivated attempt to murder a family only because they were Jewish. The phenomenon of antisemitic attacks in Israel in general and in Jerusalem in particular must stop. Every terrorist should know that they will pay dearly for every antisemitic attack. We will continue to demand that Islamist terrorists pay high price for their terrorism, thereby contributing to public security.”
