Sde Teiman soldiers sue Yariv Oppenheimer over libel

Tweets from Oppenheimer and the letter from Honenu

Thursday, November 13, 2025, 11:59 Honenu Attorneys Menashe Yado, Adi Keidar, and Nati Rom are representing two of the five IDF Unit 100 soldiers indicted in the Sde Teiman case on suspicion of assaulting a Nukhba terrorist prisoner who took part in the Simhat Torah massacre (October 7).

Attorney Yado wrote a letter to Yariv Oppenheimer on behalf of the soldiers demanding that he apologize to them for tweets that he posted on X (Twitter) after a video clip was leaked from the Sde Teiman military base and aired on Israeli Channel 12. Oppenheimer claimed that the video clip shows the soldiers sodomizing the Nukhba terrorist prisoner.

In the letter, the soldiers leveled sharp criticism at Oppenheimer for posting libelous tweets about them: “In a long list of tweets, you claimed that you had seen the video clip, and that it showed an act of sodomy. You maliciously lied without batting an eye. You published your false accusation before the Military Advocate General made the video clip available to our attorneys, when we could not defend ourselves. Now the video clip has been released, and your lie has been revealed. You lied in front of the entire world on widely-shared platforms across the social media.

“We demand the publication of an apology with the following text: ‘For a long period of time, I maliciously and incessantly repeated a lie on social media claiming that I had seen a video clip of soldiers committing sodomy. I admit that there is no sodomy shown in the video clip, and I ask forgiveness from each and every one of the IDF Unit 100 soldiers, and from the People of Israel.”

Attorney Yado issued a statement: “Yariv Oppenheimer took advantage of the fact that the video clip was still classified when he issued his tweets, and therefore his statements could not be disproven.”
