Soldier attacked by terrorists later questioned under caution

Thursday, July 30, 2026, 9:47 Last Shabbat, a soldier was attacked while hiking near the community of Susiya in the southern Hevron Hills by terrorists who seized his weapon and tried to shoot him. The soldier was injured while struggling with the terrorists, but managed to escape. The IDF detained four terrorists involved in the incident.

This Wednesday, the soldier arrived at the police station to testify about the attack. To his astonishment, he found himself being questioned under caution on suspicion that he had attacked the Arab terrorists. Honenu Attorney Nati Rom provided legal counsel to the soldier, who was released after the interrogation.

Attorney Rom sharply criticized the police, saying, “Last Shabbat, an IDF soldier was brutally attacked by several terrorists who charged at him, beat him, seized his weapon, and nearly killed him. He fought like a lion, was injured, hospitalized, and later released. This morning [Thursday], he arrived at the Yehuda and Shomron District Police station to give a statement as a crime victim. Suddenly, they stopped taking his testimony and began questioning him under caution. They opened a criminal file against him, and accused him of being the attacker, even though the video clearly shows that he was the one who was attacked.

“The practice whereby the Israel Police almost automatically questions under caution people who defend their own lives and the public is illegitimate. It harms us, causes us casualties, and undermines the security of the state. This practice must stop.”
