Suit filed against terrorist six months after attack

Monday, May 5, 2025, 10:31 Six months ago, a terrorist ran over Ophir Engelsman, a combat soldier in the reserves, in the Southern Har Hevron region. Recently, a suit was filed with the Military Court in Yehuda against the terrorist. The statement of claim describes how the terrorist rented a car and drove around looking for soldiers with the intent to murder them. When he reached Avraham Hasno Junction (formerly known as al-Fawwar Junction), he noticed several soldiers and accelerated in their direction. Engelsman was hit and seriously injured. One of his legs had to be amputated.

Engelsman, accompanied by Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher, was present at the arraignment. He expressed his desire for a stiff penalty: “I arrived at court to demand that the terrorist never see the light of day and that his family and his associates be expelled.”

Attorney Bleicher added, “Ophir was seriously injured by a terrorist who attempted to murder soldiers. Ophir came to the hearing to verify that the terrorist would receive a penalty that would deter acts of terror. Our preference is for the death penalty, and if that is impossible, at least life imprisonment. We will continue to follow the legal proceedings to ensure that similar attacks are not repeated. The time has come for the military court to stiffen penalties for terrorists.”

Honenu represented the family of Avraham Hasno, Hy”d, who was murdered in a car-ramming attack near al-Fawwar Junction in October 2015. The Har Hevron Regional Council re-named the junction in his memory.
