K’far Saba Magistrate Court ordered Boaz Albert released

Thursday, January 16, 10:33 The K’far Saba Magistrate Court ordered the release of Boaz Albert, a Yitzhar resident who has spent the past four months in remand due to his refusal to comply with an administrative order issued on July 23, 2013 by Major General Nitzan Alon banning him from entering his home in Yitzhar and all of Yehuda and Shomron.
Albert was detained and released several times, most notably on August 15, 2013. Albert was detained at home in a violent detention, which included the police repeatedly shocking him with a Taser gun in the presence of his wife and children. The incident was widely publicized, including a video clip which proved that Albert had not resisted detention. After the incident Police Commissioner Yohanan Danino banned the use of Taser guns by police.
Also on September 24, during the Succot holiday, Albert was detained after Yassam (Special Forces) and border police worked for six full hours, out of which four and half were devoted to releasing Albert from a device he had installed in order to thwart the police attempting to remove him from his home. During his four months of remand Albert could have been released had he agreed to comply with the administrative order banning him from his home, his source of income and all of Yehuda and Shomron. Albert chose not to acquiesce to an order he believes was issued only because of his public remarks against the policies of the IDF concerning combating terror, and not because of any illegal acts. During his remand Albert received widespread support from his friends, Knesset members, rabbis and public figures who visited him.
On Thursday, January 16 at 23:59 the administrative order will no longer be in affect and therefore Honenu filed a request for Albert’s release. At a deliberation at the K’far Saba Magistrate Court on the morning of Thursday, January 16 the court ordered Albert released to his home in the evening. During the deliberation Albert was given the option to be released immediately on condition of signing the administrative order and complying with it for several hours until midnight. However Albert refused to obligate himself to comply with the order for even a minute. Honenu attorney Adi Kedar represented Albert.
Albert’s friends have scheduled a “welcome home” party for Sunday, January 19 at his home in Yitzhar.
