Monday, January 13, 2020, 12:56 On the afternoon of Monday, January 13, a deliberation is scheduled to take place at the Petah Tikva Magistrates Court on the case of three of the recent GSS detainees. A police representative is expected to request conditional release for the detainees.
On January 9, despite attempts by the police to prevent it, the Central District Court in Lod upheld the ruling by Petah Tikva Magistrates Court Judge Ophir Katavii-Rivlin and allowed the publication of detainees’ reports that during interrogations the GSS had severely violated their rights. The detainees reported sleep deprivation and brutal and long interrogations. The adults were prohibited meetings with an attorney for six or seven days.
Honenu Attorneys Chai Haber, Nati Rom, Amir Bracha, Adi Keidar and Avichai Hajbi will represent the detainees.
Keidar spoke before the deliberation: “We are here at the courthouse to demand the release of the [recent GSS] detainees. This is a badge of shame for the GSS and the Israeli Police who have been holding youths, one of them a minor, for almost two weeks, and brutally interrogating them while violating their rights. Now the cat is out of the bag. There is nothing to this case. I hope that whoever needs to be penalized will be. We will file complaints and suits on the matter.”
The scheduling of a deliberation for a fourth GSS detainee is expected to be arranged in approximately an hour and a half in court.
Update: Sunday, January 19, 2020 The three detainees, who are accused of involvement with the same incident, were released after the January 13 deliberation, on that day.
The fourth detainee is suspected of involvement with a different incident and he is still in remand.
The rights of all four detainees were severely violated during GSS interrogations by brutal treatment, including sleep deprivation
