Thursday, May 15, 2025, 19:14 In January 2023, a left-wing activist attacked a Jewish Jordan Valley resident and grabbed his pistol. After the attack, the activist was indicted for assault and illegal possession of a weapon, and banned from approaching the resident’s farm. Despite the restraining order, the activist arrived at the resident’s farm one week ago. The activist was detained by the police, interrogated, and banned from entering Yehuda and Shomron for two weeks. Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher wrote a letter to the police on behalf of the resident demanding that the activist be put on trial for violating the restraining order.
The indictment describes the incident: “The complainant lives on a farm located north of Hamra, in the northern Jordan Valley. The defendant arrived at the site to accompany local [Arab] shepherds while they grazed their flocks. On January 27, 2023, the complainant went out to a hill at the site to speak to a shepherd and ask him not to graze his flock at the site. The defendant blocked the path of the complainant with two walking sticks and did not allow him to continue walking. Additionally, the defendant shoved the complainant several times. Then the complainant took hold of one of the walking sticks that the defendant was holding and pulled it from his hand. In response, the defendant encircled the complainant with his arms as his hands were holding the [other] walking stick.
“In addition to what is described above, the defendant assaulted the complainant by shoving him and pulling his pistol out of his right back pocket. Consequently, and due to the resistance of the complainant, the pistol fell to the ground. The complainant immediately picked it up and distanced himself from the site. In the acts described above, the defendant assaulted the complainant. … Also, the defendant attempted to illegally possess a weapon.”
Attorney Bleicher warned: “Farming pioneers defending State land and enabling our existence in Israel are constantly attacked and harassed by activists from left-wing organizations. The activists engage in illegal activities time after time, including the violation of court orders. Their actions endanger the security of Jewish citizens. Therefore they must be treated with an iron fist to prevent deterioration of the situation.”
