Oz Tzion: Minor sues border police officer over assault

Monday, September 1, 2025, 9:12 Honenu Attorney Eladi Weisel filed an NIS 30,000 suit with the Jerusalem Magistrates Court against the police, on behalf of a minor. One month ago, a border police officer assaulted the minor during the destruction of an outpost.

The statement of claim describes the assault: “On July 21, 2025, the minor arrived at the Oz Tzion outpost in the Binyamin region. Several minutes after his arrival, a border police officer suddenly and violently punched him in the face. There was no legal justification. A video recording of the assault documents the incident: The punch is clearly visible in the recording, as is the reaction of another officer, who appears to be his commander. In response to the brutal assault, the commander seized the assaulting officer, wrapped his arms around him, and removed him from the site. Due to the force of the blow, the minor’s kippa had fallen to the ground. Startled and in pain, he ran to pick it up, and then fled the site. His face was bruised and bleeding, and he suffered severe pain.”

Attorney Weisel commented on the case: “This is one of many instances of an officer brutally and unjustifiably punching a minor in the face. This is not an isolated case. We have been witnesses recently to a harsh attitude of disregard for those known as ‘hilltop youth.’ At times, this disregard reaches the point of directly endangering lives. When ‘hilltop youth’ are involved, police restraint disappears. At the same outpost, several days later, a border police officer shot a minor in the back, seriously injuring him. This is dangerous police thuggery, that is spreading unrestrained. We will use all legal means at our disposal to eradicate this violence before it takes a life.”
