During the demonstration, which ended at close to 1:30 at night, the entrance to Jerusalem was blocked for several hours by approximately 1,000 demonstrators calling out “Justice for Ahuvia” and demanding that the policemen who caused Ahuvia Sandak’s death be put on trial.

Ahuvia Sandak’s fiancée, Shalhevet Goldstein, was detained and 15 of the detainees were minors. The youngest was a 14-year-old girl who told Honenu Attorney Assaf Gonen that she was violently beaten by the police who detained her.

One of the detainees, a 26-year-old Beit Shemesh resident, was brutally detained. During his detention, as he was lying on the ground, the police shocked him several times with a Taser. Policemen also beat a 44-year-old resident of Gush Etzion with batons during his detention. Honenu Attorney Assaf Gonen assisted the detainees at the police station all night.

Demonstrations protesting the death of Ahuvia in a police car chase have been renewed in light of reports that Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit is expected to hold a meeting in the coming days at which the decision regarding whether or not the policemen involved with Ahuvia Sandak’s death will be put on trial will be finalized.

A demonstration is scheduled for Saturday night, after Shabbat, at the String Bridge in Jerusalem at 21:00.
