Yaffo detainees to be released

Tuesday, December 23, 2025, 14:31 One week ago, three Jews were detained in Yaffo on suspicion of attacking several Arab men and two Arab women. From the first moment, the detainees maintained that they had been attacked by the Arabs. At court hearings, it was revealed that the husband of one of the complainants chased the Jews with a large rock in his hand and tried to throw it at them. Before that, an argument had broken out between the sides, and an Arab mob surrounded the Jews. Shortly, the police will ask the court to release the detainees.

Honenu Attorney Asaf Gonen, who is representing the detainees, issued a statement: “As we asserted from the first day, in complete contrast to reports from a sizable portion of the media, who rushed to classify the incident as a ‘racially motivated attack’ on a pregnant woman, my clients were attacked. Today the court ruled that they will be released to house arrest. Their testimony that they were the ones who were attacked was accepted. My clients went for a walk on the streets of Yaffo, and one of them accidentally bumped into a car in a narrow alley. Immediately afterward, several Arab men and two women gathered around them, cursed them, and threatened them. My clients acted in self-defense only. They certainly did not attack a pregnant woman. I welcome the court’s decision to release them. The media would do well to let the truth be revealed in court and not prematurely hand down verdicts.”
