Sunday, July 25, 2021, 9:38 On the night of Wednesday, July 21, an Arab mob attacked three Jewish youths in Hawara, brutally injuring one of them. The injured youth was evacuated to Beilinson Hospital. The mob fabricated a story that the youths were connected to a price tag incident. On the morning following the attack, the GSS took the injured youth from Beilinson Hospital for interrogation and issued an order preventing him from meeting with an attorney until Tuesday (July 27).
Honenu appealed to the district court and following the appeal, the sides came to an agreement that the youth would meet with an attorney on Saturday night, after Shabbat. In related news, the Petah Tikva Magistrates Court extended his remand until Tuesday. Honenu Attorneys Nati Rom and Adi Keidar are representing him.
Rom: “My client experienced a serious incident in which dozens of Arabs beat him until he bled profusely from all parts of his body, recorded their acts, and then uploaded a video to social media. It is unbelievable that the GSS and the Yehuda and Shomron Police decided to detain my client [not any of the attackers], prevented him from meeting with an attorney, and then issued a gag order on the case.
“What I can say is that unfortunately, as of this time, the Israeli Police and the GSS have not investigated the brutal attack, and I do not recall any incident in recent months in which Arabs have been investigated by the GSS for property crimes and have not been permitted to meet with an attorney.”
The two minors who were attacked by the same Arab mob and had spent the night out in the open near Hawara before making their way to Yitzhar, were detained by the police and taken to the Ariel Police Station for interrogation on Saturday night.
Honenu Attorney Nati Rom, who is representing the minors: “Instead of investigating the perpetrators of the brutal attack, detaining suspects, and returning a sense of security to the area, the police are again raiding homes in the middle of the night, detaining minors, victims of terror, and persecuting them. This is the reverse of what should be.”
