Wednesday, October 26, 2022, 10:40 On Tuesday, October 25, the Central Unit of the Jerusalem Police and the GSS detained two Jewish men in their 20s, apparently on suspicion of assisting residents of the Shimon HaTzadik neighborhood to defend their home as Arabs were attacking it several days ago. The police did not provide the residents with assistance.
The detainees were taken for interrogation by the GSS and prohibited from meeting with an attorney. In the evening after their detention, Honenu Attorneys Nati Rom and Avichai Hajbi tried to meet with the detainees. However, for hours the interrogators refused to allow a meeting, and it was not until the following morning that they presented to Rom the order prohibiting the detainees from meeting with an attorney. Sometime during the day, the detainees will be brought to court, where Rom and Hajbi will demand that the police be ordered to immediately release them.
Recently, during disturbances in the Shimon HaTzadik neighborhood, Arab rioters seriously injured a Jewish youth, who suffered cranial fractures and a head injury. The youth was transported to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital where he was kept on a ventilator and in a medically induced coma in the emergency ward. After several days, his condition improved and he was out of danger.
Honenu Attorney Nati Rom stated, “Yesterday, late at night, my clients were detained, and I tried for many hours to meet with them. Only after long hours of refusal, even though the interrogators had not presented an order, in violation of the law, this morning we were presented with the order prohibiting meeting with an attorney. “The GSS and the special units of the Israel Police are concentrating their efforts on detaining Jews, which is difficult to understand as we are witnessing serious terror attacks on Jews in Jerusalem, the capital of Israel. Unfortunately, Jewish citizens are the ones who fear wandering the streets, while the Israel Police are devoting their time to harassing Jews blowing a shofar (and see here), and detaining defenders and victims. We’ve lost it. There is nobody to defend the loyal citizens of Israel.”
