Sunday, January 22, 2022, 12:37 In January, a group of Arabs attacked a Jewish youth in Tzahal Square, off of Jaffa Street in Jerusalem. The incident was recorded by security cameras and the assailants were detained. Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher, who is representing the youth, sent a letter to the police, demanding that the assailants be held in remand until the end of proceedings against them and be indicted for a racially motivated attack. The letter is summarized below.
At 20:00, on January 10, 2021, my client, who was walking in the area of Tzahal Square, was surprised when suddenly a group of Arabs cursed him for no reason other than his outwardly Jewish appearance. When my client turned to them and asked them what happened, they threw rocks at him. The incident was recorded by security cameras and two suspects were detained. My client filed a complaint at your police station, and he is aware that there are detainees.
This was a serious, racially motivated attack on a Jew in the heart of Jerusalem. Decisive action must be taken against the assailants. They must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and indicted for a racially motivated attack. An antisemitic rock-throwing attack in the center of the capital city of Israel is inconceivable. One must not become accustomed to such an act being routine.
We thank the police for the speed with which the assailants were apprehended, and we will follow the case to ensure that they are prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Afterwards, we will pursue a civil suit against the assailants for damages.
