Thursday, June 12, 2014 11:44 On Wednesday, June 11 the Attorney General’s office filed an indictment against the Arab who assaulted a Jewish minor near the Dung Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem on Tuesday, June 3, the eve of the Shavuot holiday. The youth was hospitalized in intensive care with a skull fracture and internal bleeding, which did not prevent the police from interrogating him on suspicion of assaulting the Arab.
In the indictment the Attorney General’s office detailed the crimes committed by the Arab assailant, explained their severity and also requested holding the assailant in remand until the end of proceedings. Honenu supports the good work of the Attorney General’s office in the case thus far. However the indictment lacks the nationalist/racist motive for the assault. The Attorney General’s office is quick to attribute a nationalist/racist motive to an eight-year-old Jewish boy, but not to an assailant in this case of life-threatening aggravated assault.
