Gag order still stands

Monday, April 11, 2016, 22:23 On the evening of Monday, April 11, deliberations at the Petah Tikva Magistrate Court, on the five ISA detainees, three of whom were detained on April 4, who are prohibited from meeting with an attorney, came to a close. At the deliberations the police demanded that the remand of the four detainees be extended by 10 days. Petah Tikva Magistrate Court Judge Eliana Danieli extended the remand of one of the detainees by only three days and of the others by seven days.
At the Yafo Military Court a deliberation took place on a combat soldier detained in the same case. His remand was extended by seven days. All five of the detainees are being interrogated by the ISA and are under an order prohibiting them from meeting with an attorney.
There is a gag order on the case prohibiting publication of all details other than the fact that detainees are suspected of security violations. Sources close to the investigation said that the case involves property violations only.
The detainees are being represented by Honenu Attorneys Chai Haber and Aharon Roza. They intend to file an appeal with the district court on the decision of the magistrate court.
After the deliberation Roza stated that, “The court extended my clients’ remand, for a second time. One client’s remand was extended until Thursday, which is what we agreed to. My other clients, one of whom is a minor, had their remand extended until Monday, 18.4.16, too long in my opinion. I intend to appeal to the district court. I again express my hope that the investigating authorities will come to their senses quickly and allow a meeting between myself and my clients for the purpose of consultation, a legal right for everyone.”
Honenu director Shmuel (Zangi) Meidad, who was present during the deliberation, said that, “Unfortunately today it is enough to label a case “security violation” and the suspects are automatically deprived of certain basic rights, such as meeting with an attorney. Sometimes the interrogations include torture. I am concerned about the well-being of these detainees.”
