Monday, April 3, 2023, 17:26 Shomon resident Avraham Yered has been under administrative detention since November 2022. Outgoing Defense Minister Benny Gantz signed the first order and four months ago Defense Minister Yoav Gallant signed an order extending the detention. Approximately one week ago, Yered was supposed to be released, however, Defense Minister Gallant extended the detention order by three months. Now, Central District Court Judge Ya’akov Spasser shortened the detention by one month. Yered is engaged and is supposed to get married soon. However, the extension of the order prevents the wedding from taking place.
Honenu Attorney Adi Keidar, who is representing Yered, commented on Judge Spasser’s decision: “We received the decision with mixed feelings. The District Court accepted our claims but did not cancel the order. We will study the decision, and we expect the other side to also reconsider and take into account the entirety of the arguments.”
Yered’s family also reacted to the decision: “We received the decision with mixed feelings. ‘One eye cries, and one eye laughs.’ Avraham’s wedding is supposed to take place in a month. His fiancée is broken, and we have no recourse because the order was given without a trial. But, maybe here there is the first sign of stopping the insanity of detaining someone without putting them on trial. We implore Defense Minister Gallant to cancel this shameful order immediately.”
