Monday, January 31, 2022, 11:27 In mid-January, an Arab assaulted two 12-year-old Jewish boys on the light rail in Jerusalem. Although the incident was recorded by security cameras, it is not yet known if any suspects have been detained.
Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher sent an urgent letter to the police (summarized below) on behalf of the boys:
While my client and his friend were riding the train, an Arab youth harassed and antagonized them. When the train reached the A-Sahel Station, the youth spit directly into the face of my client and on his friend’s arm. Immediately afterwards, the assailant exited through the doors that had opened and escaped from the first car to the platform.
The boys experienced distress, embarrassment, and insult during the extremely ugly antisemitic assault. The following day, my client filed a complaint at your station for the racist assault, described the assailant and explicitly requested that the cameras on the train be examined.
This was a serious incident which must not be ignored. It is one of many similar incidents which occur on the light rail, and of many more which occur in the capital city daily. A child must not be left helpless and humiliated when faced with a contemptible thug, only because he is Jewish. The assailant must be penalized.
The boy and his family are aware that the company that operates the light rail has documentation of the incident from cameras in the train. Therefore I ask that you urgently take the evidence from the cameras, both those in the train and those on the station platform, transfer a photograph of the assailant to the intelligence branch, locate him, detain him and bring him to trial as quickly as possible.
