Sunday, September 22, 2024, 10:57 Yesterday (Shabbat), several Arabs cursed and attacked a group of Jewish youths walking through the Old City of Jerusalem. During the attack, one of the Arabs drove at the group in his car, then got out, headbutted one of the Jewish youths in the face and choked him while the other Arabs threw rocks at the rest of the group and attacked them with heavy tools. The Jewish youths were injured and required medical treatment.
Police forces who arrived on the scene separated the sides and took four Jewish youths in for interrogation, two of whom were detained afterward. The Arab assailants were also detained, but released a short time later. Honenu Attorney Daniel Shimshilashvili is providing the detainees with legal counsel.
Honenu Attorney Daniel Shimshilashvili stated, “We have witnessed yet another attack on Jews by Arabs motivated only by antisemitism. After the attack, the assailants hurried to falsely accuse the attacked youths of instigating a fight. It is intolerable for Jews to be afraid to walk to their homes in the heart of Jerusalem. I call on the police and all of the law enforcement authorities to arrest the assailants and put them on trial.”
