Monday, November 4, 2024, 15:45 The Jerusalem Magistrates Court awarded right-wing activist Tom Nisani NIS 15,000 compensation for a false detention carried out three years ago. Nisani was detained while working for Im Tirtzu documenting how the Civil Administration acted against Jewish interests and in favor of Arabs in Gush Etzion. Nisani was unjustifiably handcuffed for many hours and interrogated on suspicion of violating a closed military zone order. After the incident, Honenu Attorneh Menashe Yado sued the police on behalf of Nisani.

Tom Nisani welcomed the ruling and said, “Unfortunately, this is not the first time that I have been forced to appear in court, not only to receive personal compensation, but rather primarily to attempt to remind law enforcement agents of their duty to obey the law and not to trample citizens’ rights. I thank Attorney Yado and Im Tirtzu for standing by my side throughout the entire trial.”

The Im Tirtzu movement added, “We are pleased that justice was done with Tom, who works tirelessly building communities in Israel. The Israel Police must be impartial and treat Yehuda and Shomron residents and activists exactly as they treat other sectors of the population.”

Honenu Attorney Menashe Yado also issued a statement: “Tom Nisani was illegally detained for his work documenting how agricultural land is transferred to Arabs under the protection of the Civil Administration, damaging the national and security interests of Israel. We hope that now, after the State of Israel has paid a high price for caving in to territorial demands, the Ministry of Defense and the Civil Administration will thoroughly overhaul their strategies, and the sooner the better.
