Monday, October 28, 2024, 9:20 On Sunday, the Be’er Sheva District Court released three right-wing activists who were detained last week after they attempted to cross the fence into the Gaza Strip. The police brought the activists to a hearing at the Ashqelon Magistrates Court on Friday. At the hearing, the police requested a seven-day remand extension for the activists, which the court rejected. The activists were released to house arrest, and the police appealed the decision.
Honenu Attorney Avichai Hajbi, who is representing the activists, also appealed the decision and demanded that the house arrest be canceled. The Be’er Sheva District Court rejected the appeal from the police, accepted the appeal from Honenu, and released the activists.
Attorney Hajbi issued a statement after his appeal was accepted: “With his decision, the Honorable District Court President Benny Sagi placed a stop sign in front of the Israel Police and clarified that discrimination against a particular sector would not be tolerated.
