Sunday, January 5, 2025, 17:18 Six right-wing activists were detained last Thursday after attempting to cross the fence into the Gaza Strip. On Friday, the detainees were brought to the Ashkelon Magistrates Court, which released them. However, the police appealed the decision, and the court delayed the detainees’ release until Sunday. On Saturday night, after Shabbat, the detainees were released without prior notification to their attorney and the police withdrew the appeal. Thus they were held in remand for an entire day, over Shabbat, for no reason.

Honenu Attorney Nati Rom, who is representing the activists, stated, “The appalling behavior of the police makes a mockery out of the basic rights of citizens who were detained only because of their political affiliation. We do not intend to let this go quietly. We intend to appeal to the authorities who oversee the police with regard to the scandalous conduct that we encountered.”
