Sunday, October 6, 2024, 15:27 Today (Sunday), the Central District Court in Lod reduced the administrative detention of a Yehuda and Shomron resident from four to three months. He and another resident were detained in late September by the GSS and the Yehuda and Shomron Police. Last Sunday, several minutes before a court hearing at which they were expected to be released, they were served with four-month administrative orders signed by Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. Honenu Attorney Moshe Poleski is representing the detainee.

Attorney Poleski reacted to the decision: “At an intense hearing, we raised complaints regarding the circumstances under which the detainee received the administrative order. The claims stem from the dates on which the order was issued and served. The order was issued a significant time after the crime was allegedly committed. It was served a significant time after it was issued by the court, which would indicate that the State itself did not think that the detention of my client was urgent. The court then held a hearing in the presence of only one of the parties concerned, representatives of the GSS, and as a result of the hearing the duration of the administrative order was reduced by one month. We thank the court for this act.”

Attorney Poleski added, “The defense minister acted in an unacceptable and unworthy manner by signing the detention orders instead of trying the detainees in court as is customary in every democratic country, which requires presentation of evidence as proof of guilt. In this case, an administrative detention order was issued only for the purpose of deterrence and sowing fear, not for the purpose of maintaining security. We hope that the GSS will internalize who the enemies trying to destroy us are and devote all the necessary resources to eradicating terror organizations.”

On Tuesday, October 1, an additional hearing was held for both detainees. Honenu Attorney Moshe Poleski and Attorney Marc Zell, who is also representing the detainees, strongly criticized the use of administrative orders against Yehuda and Shomron residents.
