Tuesday, December 24, 2024, 13:21 In mid-December, three Arab construction workers attacked a Hareidi yeshiva student in the Ramot neighborhood of Jerusalem. He was riding his electric bicycle and signaled to one of the attackers standing in the street to clear the way for his passage. The Arabs attacked him with a crowbar and tried to crush his head with a floor tile. He was transported to the hospital with skull fractures, cuts to his head, and hemorrhaging. The police arrested the attackers, and the State Attorney’s office indicted them for aggravated assault. However, although the incident was obviously a terror crime, the attackers were not charged with racially motivated assault.

Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher, who is representing the student, stated, “Unfortunately, Arab terrorists take advantage of every opportunity to harm the security and lives of loyal Israeli citizens. In the matter at hand, as with other terror attack cases that we are handling, the incident starts with a few words or a gesture disagreeable to the Arab. Very often, an attack, even attempted murder, soon follows. The attacker was waiting for a chance to injure a Jew. The time has come for a change in the general policy of the State Attorney’s office. Severe assaults such as this must be considered terror attacks, even if there was an initial trigger of some sort.”
