Sunday, September 22, 2024, 14:10 In March 2023, an Arab Kavim Public Transportation bus driver assaulted a Jew stopped at a red light on Route 431 at the entrance to Modi’in. After the assault, Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher filed a complaint with the police on behalf of the victim. The driver was apprehended, and the Ramle Magistrates Court convicted him of assault.
The victim described the incident: “As I was driving on Route 431, a bus driver behind me flashed his lights at me and made a slitting gesture with his hand across his throat. I called the police and reported the incident. [At a red light,] the bus driver got out of his bus, kicked my car door, punched me twice in the face and tried to kick me. I grabbed his leg and shouted for help. Then a border police officer arrived and detained him until the police arrived.”
Attorney Bleicher described the assault in greater detail in a letter he wrote to the police shortly after the incident demanding that they arrest the violent Arab bus driver.
Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher issued a statement after the conviction: “Violent attacks on Israeli citizens by Islamist thugs, some of whom are employed at the wheel of public buses, are a disgrace, an extremely dangerous disgrace. There is an urgent need for increased law enforcement regarding bus drivers. After violent incidents, the perpetrators must be monitored to prevent drivers who pose a danger from continuing to transport hundreds of Israeli citizens every day.”
