Arab bus driver still not indicted for attack near Bnei Brak

Wednesday, July 24, 2024, 14:42 In June, an Arab bus driver working for the Kavim Public Transportation Company attacked a Jewish passenger near the Bar Ilan Junction (see video below). The driver brutally beat the passenger and even tried to assault him on the ambulance that arrived to transport him to the hospital. Despite recordings of the attack that were shared on social media, as of now, the driver has not been indicted. Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher, who is representing the victim, wrote a letter to the police demanding that they put the driver on trial and file an indictment against him.

In his letter, Attorney Bleicher described the vicious attack: “On June 4, 2024, at the Bar Ilan Junction, my client was viciously attacked by a Muslim bus driver working for the Kavim Public Transportation Company. Without any justification, the assailant brutally punched my client in the face, attempted to tear his eyes out with his fingers, and choked him numerous times as he demanded that he ask for forgiveness from ‘Allah’. It was unquestionably an attempt to kill my client.

“The most violent moments, when the assailant pummeled the victim, were filmed, publicized, and deeply shocked the general public. Despite the unequivocal evidence, over a month and a half has passed and the assailant has not been indicted. The undersigned wrote several letters to the Tel Aviv Police Prosecution Department, but did not receive a reply. The State Attorney’s office should have handled the case and indicted the driver on serious charges, commensurate with the severity of his acts. Now that the case has reached the police prosecution, it must be handled with the utmost seriousness and speed.”

Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher commented on the case: “An appalling attack by an Arab bus driver on a Jew was recorded, and the video clip was widely shared among the Israeli public. The victim also gave extremely shocking testimony. The severity of the acts justifies decisive and immediate treatment, and the assailant should be remanded until the end of proceedings. Unfortunately, over a month and a half has passed, the dangerous assailant is free, and legal proceedings have not yet begun. We demand that the prosecution come to their senses and immediately put the assailant on trial.”
