Monday, November 25, 2024, 7:59 One month ago, Arabs attacked three Jews, one civilian and two soldiers, near the Ma’aleh HaZeitim neighborhood of Jerusalem. The civilian was walking with his brother, one of the soldiers, when Arabs started to gather around the latter. The civilian repelled the crowd and extricated his brother from the site. Another soldier who was in the area and attacked by the Arab crowd fired into the air to disperse the attackers.
Two weeks later, the police arrested the civilian, claiming that he had attacked the Arabs who had attempted to injure his brother. The Police Prosecution Department subsequently indicted him for assault. Honenu Attorney Daniel Shimshilashvilli, who is representing the civilian, fought a legal battle that resulted in his release to house arrest. Currently, the civilian is awaiting the start of his trial.
Honenu Attorney Daniel Shimshilashvilli issued a statement: “The indictment does not accurately describe the incident, which occurred in a place where Jews are frequently attacked. This attack could have ended tragically were it not for the courage that the civilian and the soldiers exhibited.”
