Thursday, April 18, 2024, 11:55 Defense Minister Yoav Gallant signed a three-month administrative detention order against a 16-year-old minor who was detained at the beginning of the week after demonstrations following the murder of Binyamin Ahimeir, Hy”d, near the Malachei HaShalom farm. The Jerusalem Magistrates Court released another Yehuda and Shomron resident who was detained with the minor.
Before the administrative order was signed, Jerusalem Magistrates Court Judge Gad Ehrenberg ordered Mivtan, the department of the Justice Ministry authorized to investigate complaints by GSS detainees, to investigate alleged abuse by GSS interrogators of the two detainees. The abuse includes sexual harassment, illegal restraints, and not allowing one of the detainees access to tefillin.
Honenu Attorneys Nati Rom and Daniel Shimshilashvili, who are representing the detainees, issued a statement: “The GSS and the security system are not guided by security considerations in this matter. The GSS has been handling an investigation rife with brutality and rights violations for several days, and the court leveled sharp criticism at them. This is not how the truth is revealed. My clients were interrogated several times without being presented with the slightest scrap of evidence incriminating them. It is obvious that they have not committed any crimes. The administrative detention of the minor is the pound of flesh that the Defense Minister must pay in order to satisfy the American government and left-wing organizations in whose eyes the blood of Binyamin Ahimeir, Hy”d, is cheap.”
Honenu Director Shmuel (Zangi) Meidad added: “The administrative detention order Defense Minister Gallant served to a 16-year-old minor is evidence that he still strongly adheres to the conception that he held before Simhat Torah (October 7). This is an existential danger to us all. Only ‘G-d will save us from their hand’ [quoting the Haggadah]. We do not rely on miracles. I call on our elected leaders not to rely on miracles, but rather to stand firm on this matter.”
