Thursday, August 22, 2024, 23:49 Today, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant signed administrative detention orders against four Yehuda and Shomron residents, bringing his total to 25 orders issued to Jews since he took office. The residents, some of whom are married and have children, were initially detained on suspicion of involvement with disturbances in the Shomron. The police were not able to find any evidence against them, and they were not given the benefit of a trial before Minister Gallant served them with the orders.
An announcement of the orders was leaked to the media by security authorities before the detainees, their families, and their attorneys were officially informed. One order is for four months, and the remainder are for six months.
Honenu Attorney Nati Rom, who is representing the detainees, sharply criticized the administrative orders: “Minister Gallant broke a personal record by signing his 25th administrative order against Jews this evening, more than any other defense minister has signed. Instead of dismissing the defense minister and the head of the GSS who are responsible for the biggest security failure that we have known, senior authorities are continuing the behavior that led to to the October 7 tragedy, and endangering the security of the State. They are releasing Nukhba terrorists, senior members of Hamas, and other terrorists, but detaining more and more Jews. Every Israeli citizen should know that their personal safety has been placed in the hands of people who are not worthy of it. This is a complete failure.”
Earlier, Attorney Rom stated, “When it comes to Yehuda and Shomron residents, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and the head of the GSS trample their human rights. They ran to the media, disregarding both the law and accepted norms.”
Honenu Attorney Adi Keidar added: “Defense Minister Gallant and the State of Israel are again concerned with what people across the ocean will say instead of concentrating on the goals of the war. While our soldiers are waiting and hoping for an order to attack, the political echelon continues to neglect the security of Yehuda and Shomron residents.”
