Tuesday, December 17, 2024, 9:04 In a compromise agreement, the Jerusalem Magistrates Court awarded a right-wing activist NIS 8,000 compensation for a baseless detention two years ago. The police detained the activist for waving an Israeli flag at Sha’ar Shechem (Damascus Gate). After his detention, the activist was held in remand overnight, shackled, without justification. Honenu Attorney Menashe Yado filed a suit against the police on behalf of the victim.
Attorney Yado issued a statement following the ruling: “Some people think that expressing sovereignty at Sha’ar Shechem is not appropriate, and some think that it is. However, there is no question that expressing sovereignty at Sha’ar Shechem is not grounds for detention. Therefore, the activist sued the police, and in the end, it was agreed to pay him compensation.”
