Wednesday, April 17, 2024, 16:00 Late last week, a short time after the body of a 14-year-old shepherd, Binyamin Ahimeir, Hy”d was found murdered, a resident of Havat Maon in the Southern Har Hevron region received warnings from security forces about the possibility of copycat attacks on Jewish shepherds. Several hours later, a shepherd from Havat Maon reported to him that he was being attacked by Arabs. When the resident arrived at the scene, he identified a figure lunging at a man and rolling on the ground with him. The resident fired a single shot into the air and the fight stopped. Afterward, it turned out that the attacker was Jewish. Throughout the entire incident, the resident reported in real time to the security forces what was happening. Two days ago, the resident was detained by the police on suspicion of assault. At a hearing that took place today (Wednesday), the Jerusalem Magistrates Court released him to house arrest and rejected the police request to extend his remand. The police filed an appeal against the decision, which was also rejected. Honenu Attorney Nati Rom is defending the resident.
Honenu Attorney Nati Rom: “A year ago, near the farm, the owner was seriously injured, almost killed, by Arab rioters accompanied by anarchists who threw a large rock at his head. A short time after the murder of Ahimeir, security forces who warned of a possible attack in the area asked the farm owner to guard the farm’s shepherds. The shepherds were attacked by Arabs near the farm. My client went out to protect them and fired into the air to save lives. Instead of expressing their appreciation to my client for saving lives, the police detained him and even asked to extend his remand. The court refused, and the appeal the police filed on the decision was also rejected. I am pleased that the court released him.”
