Wednesday, December 4, 2024, 14:58 A hearing took place today (Wednesday), at the Central District Court in Lod for one of the seven Jewish administrative detainees who have been held for several months. A hearing for three additional detainees will take place in the coming days. Honenu Attorneys Nati Rom and Adi Keidar are representing the detainees.
Attorney Rom issued a statement: “We hope that the new policy outlined by Defense Minister Katz against the issuing of administrative detention orders to Jewish Yehuda and Shomron residents, who love Israel, the people and the land, will be applied to detainees currently being held, and that they will be released. My clients do not pose any danger to the public and should be released immediately. They are heads of households, without criminal records. When there is an entire department within the security forces targeting only Jewish residents of Yehuda and Shomron, with commanders and leaders of the GSS maintaining that the threat posed by ‘settlers’ is more serious than that posed by Iran, that is the philosophy that brought upon us the tragedy on Simhat Torah (October 7). The time has come for the GSS to change their mindset, distinguish between friend and enemy, and stop persecuting Jewish Yehuda and Shomron residents.”
In related news, this morning (Wednesday), Army Radio reporter Yuval Segev announced that Defense Minister Yisrael Katz had canceled an administrative detention order served to a Shomron resident, Itiel Ben Tzuria, by former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. This is the first administrative order that Minister Katz has canceled. Recently, Minister Katz announced that he would not sign new administration detention orders against Jewish residents of Yehuda and Shomron, With the release of Ben Tzuria, the number of Jewish administrative detainees, some of whom are married and have children, stands at seven.
