Incident occurred while the accused was interrogated

Monday, September 9, 2019, 13:25 When Yehuda Ben-Shushan, a 21-year old Yitzhar resident, was summoned to the police station for interrogation approximately six weeks ago, he could not have imagined what was about to happen. He had heard that the interrogators in the Department of Nationalist Crime in the Central Unit of the Yehuda and Shomron Police invested great effort in incriminating Jewish residents, but he did not believe that he would ever be a victim.
Ben-Shushan was summoned for an interrogation which took place on August 1, during which he was accused of assaulting Arabs near Kochav HaShahar two weeks previously, on July 18. The interrogator, Matan Tzarfati from the Department of Nationalist Crime in the Central Unit of the Yehuda and Shomron Police, read aloud the charges against Ben-Shushan, according to which he came in a van with a few other residents and assaulted a group of Arabs near Kochav HaShahar.
Ben-Shushan was certain that he had no connection to the incident, and he remembered that on that day he had not been in the area of Kochav HaShahar. However one of the assaulted Arabs claimed that he identified Ben-Shushan in a police lineup.
He tried to recall where he had been on that day, and suddenly remembered: On July 18 he was sitting in the Ariel Police Station, being interrogated by Matan Tzarfati on suspicion of involvement with an incident near Bat Ayin, for which he was also identified in a police lineup.
It became clear that Ben-Shushan had a solid alibi, for which the witness was none other than the same police interrogator who was interrogating him. Ben-Shushan reminded the interrogator of the previous interrogation and he readily recalled how he had interrogated Ben-Shushan all day and released him to his home at 15:30. The interrogator attempted to ask Ben-Shushan to where he had continued from the police station, but he insisted that he had gone straight home without stopping. Furthermore the travel time between the Ariel Police Station and Kochav HaShahar, where the assault supposedly occurred, is almost an hour.
Honenu is infuriated by the attempt to frame an innocent citizen on the basis of an erroneous identification by an Arab. This is additional proof that the Department of Nationalist Crime in Yehuda and Shomron is concerned mainly with maligning the Jewish residents with preposterously fabricated cases.
Honenu Attorney Avichai Hajbi, who assisted Ben-Shushan with legal counsel, stated that, “Here we have unequivocal evidence that the Central Unit of the Yehuda and Shomron Police specializes in besmirching youths from Yehuda and Shomron. The right hand doesn’t know what the left hand was doing only a month ago, and this instance is all the more serious because it involves the same interrogator. In the coming days we will consider suing the Israeli Police.”
