Friday, July 25, 2025, 10:41 Last night, the police detained three 13-year-old boys who were posting stickers in the Old City of Jerusalem. They were taken into the police station and held for many hours.
The stickers were printed with various slogans, among them “Rabbi Kahane was right,” “Only transfer will bring peace,” and “We should know what we’re fighting for,” a reference to fallen soldiers. The minors were interrogated on suspicion of vandalism and behavior liable to violate public peace.
The police initially wanted to bring the minors to a court hearing today. However, following pressure from Honenu Attorney Daniel Shimshilashvilli, the police agreed to release them to house arrest. A hearing is scheduled for Sunday.
Attorney Shimshilashvilli stated, “An incident that did not justify detaining 13-year-old boys ended with them being held at the police station for hours. In the end, following the intervention of the interrogations officer, the boys will be conditionally released.
“The officer correctly used his authority to release the boys. However, the incident did not justify detaining minors at the police station at all. The minors were also interrogated at night, in violation of the Youth Law. I sincerely hope that lessons will be learned.”
