Tuesday, March 18, 2025, 8:04 Earlier this week, a Jewish youth in the Old City of Jerusalem clashed with an Arab woman who had pointed a toy gun at him. Afterward, a group of Arabs attacked the youth near his home in the Old City. The police detained the youth, and at a court hearing, asked to ban him from the area for 30 days. Honenu Attorney Daniel Shimshilashvilli, representing the youth at the hearing, argued that his client felt threatened due to the security situation, especially due to the month of Ramadan. The court reduced the ban to only four days, and allowed the youth to visit his parent’s home.
Honenu Attorney Daniel Shimshilashvilli: “A Jewish resident of the Old City of Jerusalem objected to a show of hate, and found himself detained at the police station. We welcome the court’s decision to release my client without the severe conditions that the police requested. One rightfully expects the police to investigate assailants, and to ensure the safety of Old City residents, not to detain victims.”
