Wednesday, November 6, 2019, 20:31 On the afternoon of Wednesday, November 6, forces from the Civil Administration, the army and the border police attempted to impound a truck that was used for construction work in Kochav HaShahar. Clashes developed between the security forces and residents protesting the damage being done to the expansion of the community. Residents at the site reported severe violence on the part of the policemen, including spraying pepper spray. One of the residents who was injured in his eyes by pepper spray was evacuated to the hospital for medical treatment.
Honenu assisted the residents, including six protesters who were detained. The same evening all of the detainees were released after interrogation at the Binyamin Police Station.
Honenu Attorney Nati Rom, who assisted the detainees at the police station, stated after their release: “Today in the area of Kochav HaShahar six individuals were violently detained by the Israeli Police. We are pleased that several hours after their interrogation the detainees were released. This indicates that the police were unnecessarily quick to detain. We hope that human rights violations of detainees, among them minors, in the Yehuda and Shomron regions will stop, particularly incidents of the type which have occurred recently.”
