Ramleh assailant released to house arrest

Sunday, March 10, 2024, 16:46 Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher wrote a letter to the police demanding that they arrest two Arabs who attacked a Jew in Ramleh’s open-air market in early March. One of the Arabs stabbed him and was detained, but released to house arrest. The other assailant, who sprayed him with pepper spray, was not detained.

Security camera documentation of the attack

Attorney Bleicher described the attack in his letter: “The incident began when my client’s father’s vehicle, to which a trailer was attached, was parked for loading and unloading, apparently partially blocking passage at the site. The suspects violently confronted my client and demanded that he move his vehicle. He assured them that his father would move the vehicle from the site. Several minutes later, as my client was strolling through the market, the suspects ran toward him. One of them sprayed pepper spray in his eyes, and the other stabbed him in the thigh near his abdomen. My client repelled the attackers by shoving and punching them. He escaped, clutching his wounds. Bystanders separated the stabber from my client and called an ambulance, which rushed my client to the hospital. There was a concern that he had suffered a life-threatening injury to his arteries.”

Attorney Bleicher underscored that the victim was not acquainted with his attackers, therefore the attack was nationalistically motivated and the GSS must be involved with the investigation: “Prior to the attack, my client had no acquaintance at all with the suspects. There is no explanation for why the suspects decided to stab my client, even in terms of criminal behavior, other than the motivation of the suspects to injure or murder Jews. The incident could have easily ended in death. These dangerous suspects were determined to attack. To the best of the undersigned’s knowledge, the stabber has been released to house arrest. I request that the investigation be speedily advanced, the suspects be immediately arrested and investigated for possible terrorist motives, and the GSS be involved with the investigation.”

Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher commented on the case: “Islamic terrorists search for every opportunity to injure Jews. It is intolerable for Jews in their own country to be constantly concerned that a terrorist will murder them – a terrorist who waits for a trigger or an opportunity to kill. One must consider the broader context of exposing Jews to the danger of lethal terror and act accordingly with all due determination and gravity against the suspects.”
