Tuesday, June 9, 2020, 12:15 On Monday, June 8, participants – families, children and youths – in a post-wedding Sheva Brachot celebration held at the Na’aran Synagogue near the entrance to Yericho were detained by IDF soldiers and the police. One of the detainees said that initially soldiers detained some of the participants at the entrance to Yericho, and the rest of the group succeeded in entering the synagogue. When the celebration ended, the police, who had arrived in the meantime, detained the entire group for several hours. “They detained everyone as they left, families with children and babies. They took their personal details and served them with summonses to interrogation.”
Honenu: “The Na’aran Synagogue is an important holy and historic site to the Jewish People. Jews who want only to celebrate at the synagogue should not be detained, especially not at night and not families with children. We call on the IDF and the police to allow entry to the site.”
